Knee Pain

Getting your body moving better can make a noticeable difference for many people in how your knee feels.
Sometimes the problem is in the knee. But often where you feel the pain isn't necessarily where the problem started.

Start With Something Simple

When your knee hurts, it's natural to want to avoid using it. And depending on what's going on, some activities may need to be modified temporarily.
But when you're able, comfortable movement can be one of the simplest things you can do for yourself.
Walking, gently bending and straightening the knee, and continuing to move within a comfortable range can help keep things from becoming increasingly stiff.
The key isn't to force your way through significant pain. Pay attention to how your body responds and work within what feels appropriate for you.

The Knee Is Built for Movement

Your knee may look like a fairly simple joint, but there's a lot happening every time you take a step. It primarily bends and straightens, with a small amount of rotation, while your kneecap glides as you move.
All of this has to happen while supporting you through walking, stairs, squatting, exercise, and everyday life. That's why good movement matters. When your knee and the areas around it move well, your body can handle those everyday demands more efficiently.

But your knee isn't doing any of this by itself.

It's All Connected

Every time you walk, your feet, ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and spine are working together. If movement becomes restricted somewhere in that system, your body adapts. An ankle that isn't moving well can change the way your foot hits the ground. A restricted hip can change the way your leg moves. And restricted movement through the pelvis can affect your stride and the way you distribute your weight from one side to the other.
Your body is remarkably good at making those adaptations, and you often won't even realize they're happening. But over time, one area may end up doing more work or taking more stress because another area isn't moving as well as it could. That's why, in Myopractic, we place so much emphasis on restoring movement throughout the body—starting with the hips and pelvis as the foundation.

What to Expect From Myopractic Care for Knee Pain

Your Myopractor will evaluate how your body is moving and look for areas where movement may be restricted.
From there, we use hands-on techniques to help improve movement throughout the body. Your session may include soft-tissue manipulation, joint mobilization, stretching, and other techniques based on what we find and what your body needs that day. If tension and restricted movement are contributing to your knee pain, we'll pay particular attention to restoring healthy movement through the knee and surrounding areas while still considering how the rest of your body is moving. Rather than applying the exact same routine to everyone, your session is guided by what we find as we evaluate how your body is moving.

Life is Motion

As Myopractors, we're excellent at helping people move and feel better. But even though we're great at what we do, we're still only one piece of the puzzle. A very effective one, but just one piece.

What you do outside of your sessions matters even more. The more you understand your body and take an active role in your own health, the more you can support and accelerate the progress we make together. When knee pain has been an ongoing issue, those everyday habits can play an important role in helping you maintain the progress you're making and keep feeling your best. Our goal isn't to make you dependent on frequent care. it's to help you get back to moving and feeling your best, so your body doesn't keep you from doing the things you love. That's the idea behind the Life Is Motion Newsletter. Each article shares practical ideas to help you better understand your body, move better, build simple habits, and become the healthiest version of yourself.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The good news is that often people notice relief in their first session.

Additional sessions build on that progress.

If you've been dealing with knee pain for years, we wouldn't expect one session to completely resolve a long-standing pattern. But that doesn't mean you have to wait weeks or months before you start noticing a difference. How much care you'll need depends on what we find: how long the pattern has been present, how frequently you're experiencing knee pain, and how your body responds.
That's one of the reasons we created our New Client 3-Visit Package. Your first session gives us an opportunity to begin making meaningful progress, while the next two allow us to continue addressing remaining tension and restrictions.
By the end of your third session, not only will you hopefully feel better, but together we'll have a much clearer sense of the progress you're making, giving us a much better idea of what you may or may not need going forward.

New Client 3-Visit Package

Includes your Initial Evaluation & Treatment, plus 2 additional Standard Myopractic sessions.

Often people notice a real difference after just one session, but lasting results typically take some consistency up front. By the end of your third session, you'll likely have a much clearer picture of how your body is responding, and we'll be able to give you better guidance on what you may—or may not—need beyond that point.
Package credits can be used at either of our offices.

Ready to Schedule?

Each Myopractic session begins by getting the hips balanced and moving, followed by a whole-body evaluation and treatment. Rather than just focusing only on where you're experiencing discomfort, Myopractic care looks at how the body is moving as a whole to identify and address areas of restriction. Whether you're dealing with pain, limited mobility, or simply want your body moving and functioning at its best, you can schedule your appointment below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Myopractic help with knee pain?

Many people come to Natural Motion with knee pain. Myopractic can help many people by improving movement through the knee and the areas around it, including the feet, ankles, hips and pelvis. Results vary from person to person.

Is knee pain always a problem with the knee?

Not always. Sometimes the problem is in the knee, but often where you feel the pain isn't where the problem started. If movement becomes restricted in the ankle, hip or pelvis, your body adapts, and over time the knee may end up taking more stress. That is why we evaluate your whole body, starting with the hips and pelvis, not just the knee.

What can I do at home to keep my knee from getting stiff?

When you're able, comfortable movement can be one of the simplest things you can do. Walking, gently bending and straightening the knee, and continuing to move within a comfortable range may help keep things from becoming increasingly stiff. Don't force your way through significant pain, and pay attention to how your body responds. Depending on what's going on, some activities may need to be modified temporarily, so check with your healthcare provider if you are unsure.

How is the knee supposed to move?

The knee primarily bends and straightens, with a small amount of rotation, while your kneecap glides as you move. It has to do this while supporting you through walking, stairs, squatting, exercise and everyday life, which is why good movement in the knee and the areas around it matters.

When should I see a doctor about knee pain?

Seek medical care promptly if your knee pain follows a significant injury, if the knee is very swollen, locks, or can't bear weight, or if you have a fever with a red, warm joint.
